Kids and teens birthday party ideas in Manchester, by age

The right party depends almost entirely on the age. What thrills a six-year-old bores a thirteen-year-old, and the thirteen-year-old wants the one thing the six-year-old cannot have: a room with no adults in the middle of it. Here is what works in Manchester, by age band, with a rough cost per child.

Ages 5 to 8: soft play and parks

Soft play centres across Greater Manchester run two-hour party packages with a room, food and a host. Budget roughly £12 to £20 a child. In summer, Heaton Park or Wythenshawe Park with a picnic and a football costs nothing and the children will not notice the difference.

Ages 9 to 12: trampolines, climbing, cinema

Trampoline parks and climbing centres in Trafford, Salford and Stockport do parties with a session and a food room, usually £15 to £25 a child. A cinema trip with a booth meal afterwards is the low-effort version. At this age they still want a parent nearby; they just do not want to be seen with one.

Ages 13 to 16: a private suite they run themselves

This is the age where the present is the room. At FOMO Lounge a suite comes with a PS5 on a big screen, a pool or snooker table, darts and table tennis in the large suites, the TV for whatever they want, and smash burgers, loaded fries, waffles and shakes ordered from the room and brought to the door.
